Enabling Technology for Jennifer

After 35 years, Jennifer is able to live more independently with the support of enabling technology as highlighted by the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The technology in her home includes stove sensors to notify her if she’s left the stove on, a Ring doorbell where she can view who is at her door before answering it, and a tablet that enables her to operate lights and other environmental controls. Jennifer’s technology helps her achieve her specific goals for living independently. It also enables her to live where and how she wants to live with dignity of risk.

“Jennifer was looking to put some things in her home so that she could be really more independent and at the same time, staff wanted to make sure that she was safe,” says Sherrita Addison, DIDD Enabling Tech Champion, West.
